Welcome Back Girls.
Before we start our judging session, let me say something first. I though last week was so close but this week once again it was so close between three groups in the bottom.
Let's start our judging session now!!!
Team Pink (Miley & Troian)
Amanda: I really don't like your hair. I really do like your outfit and the artistic value of this. High fashion is art. The background and outfit going together make it work well. And even though you are emotionless, it really works here. I still don't really like your hair like that, though. It almost makes this photo look really dated. Your lips are also a bit funky, but not enough to get me to hate it. Overall, it's good, but not amazing.
Joan: OMG! You look like a mini Anna! Anna has been sporting that haircut since she wall pulled out of her mother’s vagina! About the cover though, I am shocked and impressed Miley Cyrus can pull off high fashion. I was worried you would send a commercial cover and it would have been your third commercial photo. So bravo Miley! You did something different this time and it worked! The pose is strong, but that face looks confused. If you just had a strong fierce fact like your pose this cover would have been to die for. Good job though!
Beth: I love the outfit and the concept. I need you to work on your expression. I didn't really connect to your face this week, Overall, it's a good photo but just leave the hair for Anna!!!
Anna: I may be the only one, but I don't think you have a blank expression, I think you look worried, almost scared. I am happy that you decided to go with the high fashion cover, because it's something we haven't seen from you yet; but unfortunately, this tells us why...you simply don't have the look for it. However, since we are the ones that gave you this task, and it falls on you to deliver; I can see that you are really giving us your best effort. All of the different textures here are fantastic, you've managed to wipe the smile off your face, and your pose is as far away from cute and bubbly as possible. Overall, I think you've done a good job, but you do seem out of your element.
Beth: I was secretly hoping for you to chose this photo, Troian
www.marktbeauty.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/TroianBellisario4questions.jpg
I think no one expected to see that side of you Troian, Back to the photo that you submitted, it was pretty, very commercial but nothing really wow me about this photo, Troian. Sorry girl.. This isn't what I expected to see from you after I save your team last week.
Joan: Ahhh this kills me, because the one Beth suggested is really good. But to your picture, I am imaging that it was a cover, and I think it looks cute. I can see this for Elle or Nylon magazine. The only issue I have is that this is very average. You look beautiful here, and I think this is better than last round.
Amanda: I'm with them. This is very pretty and commercial, but there is nothing vibrant about it. Nothing pops out at me. Nothing makes me curious. With a magazine cover, you have to stand out. You don't. At the same time, I can't find anything wrong with it, either, so that will help you quite a bit.
The one Beth posted is still far better. It's memorable, the styling is great, plus it has a hat. And you know me - I love my hats:
Anna: My biggest problem with this photo is it could just as easily be a red carpet candid. You aren't doing anything special here, even your expression is somewhat lackluster (though part of it could be that this is also your avatar pic, so we may just be getting bored of looking at it I suppose). The overall styling here is lovely, and this is certainly commercial, but I would love to have seen more energy from you.
Team Blue (Ayumi & Gwen)
Joan: Much better than last round! I like the pose, styling, and short hair. Very commercial! But you are right, that mouth makes your facial expression looks weird and awkward. But what I really love is how quirky this cover is, you look like you’re not afraid to let loose. Good job!
Amanda: I'm going to disagree with Joan. Last round was better. Given that I ranked you second then, it's hard to top.
This isn't horrible, but I don't find myself loving it. My first reaction was "Holy text" since there's enough Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji to open up a shop to sell it all. That sort of makes you an afterthought here especially given the color of your shirt. I do like the quirkiness value of this, but at the same time your weird expression is just a huge question mark for me. I really can't decide if I love it for being unique or hate it for being somewhat strange. However, given that this IS a Japanese magazine, something "strange" on American terms is by no means "strange" over in Japan. So I'll just say I like it, but I don't absolutely love it. I do enjoy the pose and the hair, and the styling is okay, but this isn't as good as last week, but it is enough to keep you trucking forward.
Beth: There are too many words in this cover but I love to see this side of you. You look very energetic, flirty and bubbly here. I want to be your friends after seeing this. My only concern is too many words in it so it's a little bit messy. Other than that, I'm on Team Ayu this week
Anna: I know some of the other judges have issues with how many words are on your girls' covers, but I for one refuse to hold it against you. Especially in this case, because all you need to do is google "Japanese magazine cover" and you will see that having an obnoxious amount of text is perfectly normal in this country. I love that you are once again taking a risk, Ayumi. Your quirky expression is certainly unique, and I for one am a fan. I also think your pose wonderfully matches the fun and spunky style of this cover, and I'm also liking your top and accessories. Overall, this fresh and fun side of you is great for a cover, and great for the commercial theme.
Amanda: The black and white DOES add a dramatic effect which makes this catch my eye immediately. It's very high-fashion and the black and white makes it artistic, like we expect from a high-fashion cover. I'm not completely sold on the angle, but that's just a minor quibble. I like your hair but the back end of it is a question mark. I don't know what's back there, but honestly I don't care. This is still strong. And it isn't ugly like that jacket last round. Good work!
Beth: Definitely your best photo so far, Gwen!!! Your eyes are so freaking intense. I like the dress. It makes me wondering what is the overall dress might look like, which is a good thing actually. The angle of your face is spectacular.
Anna: I can't even imagine what this would look like in color; the black and white defines this image, and this image is magnificent. The intensity of your expression, the bold styling and make-up, even your hair all come together to create a look that's both edgy and mesmerizing. I also couldn't help but smile when I read the quote on this cover. Congratulations Gwen, you have officially impressed me.
Joan: BOLD! Is what this cover is! It is memorable, high fashion, and what is important is that your face is selling the cover! Strong cheekbones, beautiful hair and from the looks of it that couture looks wonderful. Good job!
Team Brown (Kate & Sienna)
Amanda: This is dull. The quality is low. I can't see your dress in detail. It's also completely white. It doesn't pop with this cover. It sort of makes you fade away. It's a very commercial cover, yes. I adore your hair and you do look good, but it isn't memorable! Your hair really is the only thing that makes you stand out. The pose is good. But again, this is just a typical magazine cover that doesn't stand out on the rack. Mix that with being late and
Beth: The right hand looks very stiff but I think the style is very commercial. I think you look very comfortable here. I love your face here. I can feel the energy shining from your face. I'm going to remember this, Kate..
Anna: In case I wasn't clear enough when I had my little "chat" with Charlize in round one, tardiness is my number one pet peeve. Yes, I see you were only five minutes late, but you girls WILL learn how unacceptable this is. I'm not going to critique you this week, because if you can't make the time for us, I'm certainly not going to make the time for you.
Joan: Your pose is alright, smile is pretty and good. I love the dress; I like it more than last week’s dress. I get a strong commercial vibe from this photo; this is a better smile than your week 1 smile. Your hair looks good and natural, which is good for a commercial shot like this.
i.imgur.com/1uuG8.jpg[/img]
Amanda: I like this, but I don't. It's high-fashion to an extent and very sexy, but the lighting is awkward, especially around your face. Those dark circles around your eyes are a bit too much for me. This is definitely a magazine cover that would stick out to me and leave an impression in my mind, but it's not necessarily for all the right reasons. It's somewhat trashy, but not too much that it's a bad thing. Overall, it's good, but it isn't amazing. Still is enough to keep you going!
Beth: Wow, you look so different, Sienna. I couldn't believe that you can give us this look. Very sexy. I think the make up is very bold and that's what I want from this shoot. Be careful with the level of hoochiness. Other than that, I'm loving this photo
Anna: How interesting, you are Katy's evil twin here (as you'll see at panel). I think it is fantastic that you are completely stepping out of your comfort zone, and giving us an entirely new look. I almost don't recognize you here; you are positively fierce. The confidence in your pose and expression is great, but in my opinion this hasn't reached its full potential. I think what's getting me is the message here is simply, "sexy Sienna", but high fashion can have so much more depth than that.
Joan: Strong! Wows Sienna I love this new look you are pulling off! This is bold, edgy and memorable. Your pose is strong as it can be! I like the dark value in this cover; it is risky if anyone will pick it up from a stand. I love the pin up girl style you have here.
Team Orange (Emmy & Katie)
Amanda: This is okay. It's definitely high-fashion. You're definitely pretty. But your blank expression leaves a lot to be desired. Your eyes are amazing, but nothing else comes close. Nothing else makes this pop. Nothing makes me intrigued about this. It's good, but not in the kind of way that I'd be like "Who is that?" when I see the cover on the grocery store checkout rack. Thankfully, this isn't bad or anything. I just don't find it as memorable as it could be. Is it good enough to keep you going? Yes. Your eyes alone add a LOT, which will help quite a bit
Joan: All these high fashion covers are giving me Goosebumps! I absolutely love the hair being blown back; it adds a lot and makes this photo not fall flat like Heidi Montags ass! However, this is a bit plain. It doesn’t strike me bold as the other high fashion covers girls choose. It is not terrible though just doesn’t have a spark!
Beth: Very simple but still unique. But I'm not sure if I going to remember this photo again. I want to see something bold from you. Something that will make any people stop and see the cover of the magazine all over again.
Anna: As with the other judges, I'm slightly bored with this. You do look fabulous, but there's nothing that really screams "look at me!". I think if you had maybe done something a bit more interesting with your pose, or maybe even your expression, the wow factor may have come to light, but as is, it's beautifully average.
Beth: The cover is kinda plain but your dress here is amazing. I love it. I think you can work on your pose more. You look like you weren't certain on what to do here. The styling helps you a lot, Katie
Amanda: Like Beth, I love the dress, but the photo itself is kind of boring. It's a little too simple, perhaps? Because of that, there's nothing that makes it pop out. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but it isn't a good one, either. It's a pretty cover. It's a commercial cover. But there's nothing unique about it. Maybe a little more color variety could've helped. Something to make it stand out on the magazine rack. This still isn't bad, so good job!
Anna: I agree with Beth, you do seem a bit uncomfortable here, as if you weren't quite sure what to do for a pose. However, I think you managed things alright, and your great smile coupled with that great dress helps to make up for it. I think the gray background is probably what hurts this cover more than anything else though; if it had been a different solid color, I think it would have brought even more life into the shot. You really do look great here, and it's obviously commercial, but it is lacking the little-something-extra to wow me.
Joan: You look camera shy here, like this is your first time modeling. The dress is wonderful; as I have said so many times I love hair being blown back so well. I think if your smile was bigger like week 1 was, this could have been way better but here it is just okay.
Team Red (Jamie & Ruby)
Joan: I love how much this cover shows personality. I am glad you are listening to what we say and trying to improve. But making that facial expression makes your face look really old. Your face is what is supposed to sell this magazine and is the most important part of a magazine cover. This does not complement your face and especially for a commercial cover, your face should be the best part of the cover.
Amanda: I really want to like this. I love the idea. It's definitely the "pop" we were looking for - in some ways. In others, it isn't. I concur with Joan that your face looks strange. I don't think it makes you look really old, however... I see... fish. Your lips are like a fish and I'm surprised there aren't bubbles coming out of it. Now the pose is spectacular and it's a very strong commercial cover otherwise, but your off-putting face is what makes this a lot weaker than it should be. You'd think a designer like Marc Ecko would wish to use a better image from the shoot since you are stunning... it's just... your face. Sorry, but you still have yet to meet your challenge of getting a standing ovation from me. :/
Beth: You definitely show your personality more this time. I'm not really crazy with the styling (except those shoes), but this photo was definitely memorable. But not only for good things.
Anna: Look at you Jamie, finally taking a risk, I'm impressed. This is certainly unique, and pushes the envelope as far as commercial covers, and for that I applaud you. Your expression is definitely telling a story; but it doesn't seem to work with the overall look (the pose, sign, and text is all implying that you are a fighter, but your expression almost looks as though you're shocked and confused). This cover does its job of getting my attention, the only problem is the more I look at it, the less I really understand it. Maybe that's a good thing though, because now I'm tempted to buy the issue just so I can find out the full story.
Amanda: I don't see the makeup. Nor do I see any sort of "fashion" here. All I see is that ring with the iguana on it. I do see that it is a high-class magazine, which does mean it's typically a high-fashion cover, but I don't see any clothes! I don't see you expressing yourself! High fashion is about how you express yourself through wearing designer clothes. There aren't any clothes in this, so I don't follow the high-fashion. Still, you look good despite the overdone eyeshadow, and it's a very strong, memorable beauty shot. It seems more commercial to me than anything... so overall, it's just okay :/
Beth: I really like this. The pose for me look very natural. You connect to the camera well and this isn't like your first two week. You look matured here, not just a bubbly and cute/pretty girl. I think you did great this week.
Anna: Ruby, I am one of your biggest fans in this competition, and I am happy to see you once again giving us something fresh and new. You've definitely got one of those versatile looks, and this mature elegance suits you nicely. For this being high fashion, however, I am rather bored with it. You look stunning, and your pose is great, but I think if you wanted to go with a minimalistic approach, you should have gone all out with it; but as is, you're almost dancing in the middle ground, which gives me the impression that you aren't committing one way or the other. In the end, I'd have to say that I think you look fabulous, but I would have liked to see you get a bit more creative.
Joan: I am with Amanda here, I don’t see high fashion. It is just a beauty shot; I wouldn’t say this would be a commercial cover either. I do agree you have been showing us something new each week when either I like the look or not. It is an okay cover for a magazine but not high fashion at all!
Team Purple (Katy & Sarah)
Amanda: This is very very good and a major improvement upon last week. I love your hair and it's a fierce kind of sexy I didn't expect from you. The makeup is strong, and your expression sucks me in. The dress is also good, but although it is Vanity Fair, I'm not sure just how high fashion it is. This isn't a very artistic cover, it's more commercial. It's still high-fashion, but the value of it doesn't blow me away like it could. Regardless, this is strong, so good job!
Anna: This is absolutely exquisite. Your black sultry hair, piercing gaze, and ruby red lips. Your pose is wonderfully high fashion yet sexy. I'm not sure where Amanda is seeing a dress, but I think this vintage style bodysuit is perfect for this, and adds to your gorgeous silver screen siren look. You've knocked this one out of the park Katy, fantastic job.
Beth: Phew, I'm glad that I saved you last week because this is really worth it. I felt good now!!! Even though, we couldn't see one of your eyes, the other eye, is already strong to catch our attention. Love the styling. Good week for you, Katy
Joan: Oh my! I love old Hollywood! You look like a sluttier, more seducing version of Marilyn Monroe! You stepped it up from last week by so much! I have nothing bad to say about this. All I have is the good! Everything looks good together, wonderful job Katy!
Beth: Very commercial. You look so fresh. You have such a beautiful eyes and I can feel the joy just looking at your eyes. Not a superb photo, but you do have potential in this competition, Sarah
Amanda: I'm not really feeling this too much. I love the eyes, but your smile is a bit too much for a magazine cover. Perhaps it would be better if it wasn't just a headshot - we really don't see enough of you! It doesn't make a major impression! Still, it's pretty, and it works for a commercial cover, but it isn't your best photo. It's merely just okay. At least it isn't scary or anything!
Anna: My goodness, you've definitely mastered the smile. Your expression is lovely here; it's undoubtedly commercial, and you look genuinely happy, which is what's going to sell the magazine. As far as this being in the competition though, I would have liked to see a bit more than just your face; a cute pose would have given this cover that little something extra, and would have sent this straight to the top of the pack. It's still a great cover though, and your eyes and smile are perfect.
Joan: Beautiful and simple! I love your smile here, no doubt in my mind this is a commercial cover. Everything is fantastic, though it is a bit simple but that smile is worth remembering so good job Sarah
Team Grey (Anne & Charlize)
Amanda: Beautiful. Stunning. Gorgeous. And high-fashion. This is supposed to be the commercial cover of you two. It's still high-fashion. That dress looks almost like couture, and its effect has an artistic value to it. Despite that, this is far more commercial than the cover Charlize has, which is a big plus for you. You're naturally gorgeous here, and this is a cover that would catch my eye. I really, really like it despite it being somewhat high-fashion - it's both. Good work, Anne - you've improved quite a bit after your disastrous start
Joan: Oh finally! After that horrible prostitute style you had last round and then your cocaine addict photo the other. Finally you do well! The dress is wonderful! The pose, chair and smile. But it looks like someone needs to go to an Indian chick and get her eyebrows threaded. Shilpa made an account I am sure she knows how! Those awful chola eyebrows are my only problem with the photo.
Beth: Anne, this is definitely your best photo so far. It just took my breathe away and your smile this time is not creepy anymore. It's natural and sweet. Those color on you was freaking beautiful. Good job, Anne
Anna: First and foremost, you get bonus points for using a cover from my magazine; and since I have final say on every photo that graces the cover of Vogue, obviously I love it. This is the Anne I've been waiting for; elegant yet playful, and high fashion with a commercial twist. Since you are supposed to be the "commercial" girl on your team this round, I'm not 100% satisfied with this, but your fantastic smile and playful pose help steer it away from a completely high fashion shot. That Marchesa strapless dress looks sensational on you, and your accessories are gorgeous without being over-the-top.
Amanda: This is sexy. Although your eyeshadow is somewhat overdone, the fact that we can only see it on one eye helps make up for it a lot. I love your hair like that, and it's definitely an artistic high-fashion cover. The roses add a lot, and it's a very memorable spread that piques my curiosity. Well done!
Joan: Wonderful! Second week in a row you impress me! I was crossing my fingers you would pick this cover. Oh how marvelous you look here Charlize. This is a gorgeous way to represent high fashion. Picking a W magazine is a great choice!
Beth: I'm so in love with this, Charlize. The styling is very artsy and your pose is so strong. Your connection with the camera is really good. I agree with Joan, for a second week in a row, you impressed us so much.
Anna: Your confidence here is inspiring, Charlize. The angle is very flattering for you, and you are absolutely flawless. The styling oozes glamour, and I think "classic elegance" is really your best look. My only criticism is I think you could have pushed this even further. You are certainly fabulous here, but when it comes to high fashion, the whole idea is to push boundaries and challenge the mainstream. Overall, I really am very happy with this cover, I'd just like to see you take things to the next level; I know you've got it in you.

Before we start our judging session, let me say something first. I though last week was so close but this week once again it was so close between three groups in the bottom.
