Hello Girls..
Welcome to your Second Judging Session. I don't wanna waste any more time so let's start our judging session now
Team Grey (Anne & Charlize) Spring/Autumn
Beth: I love the setting. And the contrast of it with your skin tone looks amazing. I love the pose and the dress was so "spring" but you need to work on your face. A little bit dead for me in this photo. Other than that, I love this photo.
Joan: Well this is a little improvement from the disaster you sent last week. I like the setting; I get the spring vibe from it. I like the pose as well but I don’t like anything else about it. The dress is god awful and your body type here makes it look so cheap. You look like a prostitute in the forest really, and your face is blank.
Anna: I like that you're out in nature, and I think it's fabulous how you are pink in a sea of green. It definitely gives the impression that you are the first spring flower of the season, blossoming in the forest, but unfortunately, your face and pose don't match that concept whatsoever. It's strange, because last week you had the expression basically right, but the rest was awful; this time, your expression is weak and everything else is strong. Anne, you've got to find a way to give us the whole package.
Amanda: This is okay, which is definitely an improvement from last time. I like how the dress and your skin make you stand out, but that's really just it - your face doesn't light up a life. The pose is okay, but it might be the angle - you're somewhat covered by the tree, and that might be why you blend in. The dress definitely goes with spring, but the setting feels more summer. You also seem to be bored as [expletive], which makes it seem more wintery. Overall, this is nothing special, but at least it isn't ghastly like your last photo. The downside is that it doesn't take much to improve on that :/
Joan: FABOULOUS! Charlize you nailed autumn!! I love the setting, I can see autumn clearly. The styling is so good and makes you look so beautiful. I just love everything about this photo, the pose is excellent. Your facial expression is wonderful. I have nothing bad to say about this photo. Well done Charlize!
Beth: The styling is the best part of this photo. And I love it so much. My only concern is the setting. I'm not really convinced by it. It doesn't look real but I really like your styling so that will help you a lot this, Charlize
Anna: You look fantastic here, Charlize. Your outfit suits the season, the setting is clearly autumn, and your pose is appropriately commercial to bring it all together. Your expression is also strong; I love the intensity in your eyes and your subtle smile. I must admit, however, that I'm not completely blown away by this photo; it does have a pretty generic quality to it, but you look great, the season is obvious, and that is good enough for me, at least in these early stages of the competition.
Amanda: This is good, but the background is terribly construed. I notice immediately that it's a sheet designed to look like Central Park or something. It makes this photo really low-quality. Despite that, you look great, and it's definitely an autumn photo - this definitely screams late October when it starts getting colder. The styling is fantastic and I like your hair, and the Thinker pose is thought-provoking. I like it, but given the background's terribleness surrounding you, I don't love it. It's still good enough for now!
Team Orange (Emmy & Katie) Winter/Summer
Joan: Oh Emmy! I just adore this photo! You look like Snow White and you look gorgeous. The couture is amazing here, and the snow falling down shows us winter. I like this photo so much; I don’t give a crap about the text at the bottom. You look like a high fashion model here, I just love this Emmy! And those delicious red lips you have! Oh my! Bravo!!!
Amanda: This is absolutely marvelous. It's graceful, it's couture, it's wintery, and it's just fabulous! Aside from the text, I really can't note any issues with this. It's gorgeous in every way it needs to be. Your face is stunning and that lipstick is fantasticous! Okay, I had to, sorry. So I'm going to be blunt in the best way possible. This is amazing!
Anna: All is forgiven Emmy; your Joker smile has officially been erased from my memory...you are positively breathtaking in this shot. You have become a magnificent snowflake, dancing in the icy breeze. Your pose excellently features the fashion (which is spot on for the season), you translate the wonder and excitement into your expression, and everything comes together perfectly. The only thing that bothers me is when looking at the original, I'm wondering why you turned up the contrast and saturation so much; it almost makes your skin look blotchy rather than the flawlessly pale ethereal look you had originally.
Beth: Wow!!! I love the concept. I think it reflect the Winter really well. I really like this photo, Emmy. You manage to capture my attention. From your pose and styling, it looks great. My only issue (Little one) is your face. Work on your face expression more. A little bit stiff and dead for me but you definitely improved from last week.
Joan: I like how you went with summer and didn’t go with the typical bikini wear. I like the fashion value in this photo! The styling in this photo is gorgeous. This looks like summer in the Hamptons; I enjoy how classy this photo is. You have a summer tan; the bright blue pool behind you is blurry so our attention is on you. Your pose is awkward but I love that fierce face you have. Plus that hair showing movement, wonderful darling!
Anna: Before we talk about summer, let's talk about this...
What happened, did somebody pee in the pool? Aside from that incredibly intense expression, I think this photo is spectacular. The pink dress against the blue pool is a fabulous contrast, and your make-up compliments both beautifully. I love the movement in your hair, and the angle of your face. I'm not entirely sure about your pose though; I can't decide if it's wonderfully high fashion, or if you are propping yourself up to...fluff. When it comes down to it, there is no doubt this is summer (you've got the token body of water after all), and you look incredible, but I don't think all of the pieces come together as flawlessly as they could have.
Amanda: This isn't as good as it could have been. Perhaps there was another image from this shoot that's leagues better. The dress is fantastic. Your hair is fantastic. The setting is fantastic and very summery too. The amount of jewelry strikes me as odd but it's still nice. Your expression is strong, but not in the way that would best fit this photo, and I too am not sure about your pose. Hence why another image from this shoot may have done you well - it has all the makings of a great photograph, but not all of them are used harmoniously.
Beth: I have problem with your pose. It looks very stiff and forced. But I do like your styling and the setting looks great too. So I was 50-50 with your photo this week. There were some parts which I really like but some parts, just look weird. I think you still can improve yourself, Katie
Team Red (Jamie & Ruby) Spring/Autumn
Joan: This is funny because if you had the pose you had last round I would have loved this picture. The dress is flowy which fits spring but it would have been way better if you had movement in your pose. The setting is fantastic and I see spring here. You look pretty here but unfortunately nothing is memorable to me. It is just an okay photo.
Anna: I really hate to do this to you, but I'm going to have to be slightly mean again. But before we get into that, let me first say that I really do think you look incredibly beautiful here; your pose is simple yet elegant, and your face and hair are lovely. However, the theme is seasons, and this is honestly your interpretation of spring? Yes, I see the pretty pink flowers on the left, but what about you? You look so serious and almost sad, and your outfit adds nothing. This season is about color, it's about life, it's about energy...I see none of that here. I don't know Jamie, maybe when I come back and look at this later "spring" will hit me in the face, but right now all I see is a gorgeous girl in serious need of a hug.
Amanda: Boring, almost summer. I dared you to please me and this isn't it. It's forgettable and even though you are stunning, you blend in more than you pop out. You need to pop here! We need to see you front and center, and we don't! Like has been said - you need to add some energy, a renewal of life... and this seems almost... the opposite. There's also the poor lighting and how it's reflected on the photograph - it doesn't add anything to the green in the back. I do like the rest of the setting, but... it sort of overwhelms you. Better luck next shoot!
Jamie: I like this photo, Jamie. I think this photo screams spring for me. Very simple and elegant and I love the outfit. The styling & setting for me fit the theme really well. I want to see more energy from you. You look a little bit tired in this photo. But apart from that, I think this is a good photo, Jamie
Amanda: I'm pretty sure posting this is obligatory
I love my hat.
And yours is great too! I can definitely see it as an autumn seasonal piece of headgear, and wearing it makes you look somewhat older than the youthful tennis girl we saw last round. I'm not sure if I relate the sadness to autumn, since "back to school" is something that makes some people happy.
I do like the artistic values in here, and of all the seasons, I definitely get an autumn vibe the most even if it isn't front and center. It's a very pleasant photo, so good work!
Joan: When I first saw this photo, I did not know what to make of it. I kept looking at it and I don’t like this. The only way I could figure out this was autumn was because of the crappy leaves on the left. The background looks fake and badly photo shop. I think you only added leaves to the photo and didn’t do anything to the background so it must be the real photo and not your fault. I am happy you went with a more high fashion noncommercial look. It is nice to see something different from last week however I am not completely sold that this is autumn and the photo is rather boring. Nice lips though!
Anna: Autumn is when the joy of summer comes to an end, and when life begins to wither and die, so in my opinion you have captured the emotion of the season wonderfully. I can understand why you felt the need to overlay the leaves and forest onto the image, because generally, if people don't see orange leaves, they don't see fall, but I am not that shallow. In fact, the way you've done this in photoshop almost makes it look like a bad magazine scan. My one other comment is I think you're definitely taking a risk by just giving us a head shot for this theme; I would have loved to see you interpret the season with a complete outfit and pose as well, but I think the hat and your powerful emotion certainly helps to make up for it.
Beth: I think this is very subtle. I love the emotion that you portray in this photo. Autumn is definitely the gloomiest season for me. I love the styling but I agree with Joan, the background really looks like a cheap photoshop. It just didn't work with your photo really well.
Team Blue (Ayumi & Gwen) Autumn/Spring
Amanda: This is very over-the-top. There's a lot going on here, yet it works together nicely - the downside is although it is very artistic, you're only just a part of it - not front and center. I think that's probably due to all the bright autumnal colors surrounding you - especially that thing on your head, which is a lot more than the mystery flower last round. I really can feel the intensity and heritage in this, and excluding the odd jeans, it is high-fashion and shows a different side of you. Your face is intense, but it's somewhat hindered by that make-up that seems to be a distraction for me.
This may sound like a mixed review, but I actually quite like this. It works, it definitely feels like a Japanese autumn shoot, and that works perfectly for you. Well done!
Joan: I waited a while before I commented because I did not know what to make of this. I tried to wait and see if I liked it but I don’t. I think being over the top doesn’t work with autumn, I see autumn as a calm, simple season. You did the opposite of that. The background helps to get the autumn season but those long nails? The makeup on your eye is distracting and doesn’t benefit anything from this photo. I hate to be negative but I am not too sure about this Ayumi. It is way too over the top for an autumn season. I do like your pose though.
Anna: I don't mind "theatrical" from time to time, and this certainly fits the bill. You have embraced your exotic look and created an intriguing and unique character. The overwhelming orange automatically implies autumn, but more than that, I think your mood fits the season as well. I would have much rather seen you posing outside under some real trees, but I don't think the screen behind you is completely awful either. With this being such a creative and artistic photo, it's bound to have just as many admirers as critics, but I think it was a bold risk, and I'm proud of you.
Beth: You look so different this week, and I like this side of you. Edgier & Fiercer. The styling is a little bit messy but I must said it worked on you. I get the Autumn vibe in this photo. I think this is very unique and memorable, Ayumi
Anna: How on earth does underwear and a Giorgio Armani silk JACKET "scream spring"? Maybe I'm missing something, I don't know. I do think that photoshopping the background green has helped to illustrate the season you're going for, but I wish you would have been a bit more careful because you seem to have colored a part of your face and fingertips as well. Gwen, I see how hard you're trying to force this image into the theme, but we need to get you out INTO the season, not doing a pinup pose in front of a painting. I love your hair and the intensity in your eyes, but that's about it I'm afraid.
Amanda: IT'S A MONSTER! RUN!!!!
Seriously, that was my first thought. This outfit is absolutely scary and nothing I would want to see anyone wearing. Just stick with leather and you'll be fine!
The background is good and is reflective of spring, but that's really the only springlike thing I get from this photo. It's weak. It's subtle. Because I'm all centered on that eyesore of a jacket. I'm also not overly fond of your hair, but your expression is strong so that's a plus. Overall though... I'm only going to remember this photo because of that jacket. It's just too much for me... yikes!
Joan: So both you and Ayumi went with a more “art” type photo this round. I think having a fake background makes this photo dull. I do get the spring vibe from this photo though. I actually like the jacket you have, I love the material and I think you rock the jacket. I like the strong legs in this photo but not the weak arms. They are just dangling with no life in them. I like your connection to the camera as well.
Beth: I really like the jacket. I can see spring in that jacket. But I'm not sure if the combination of the styling really worked together. It just didn't perfectly blend in together. The background helps a lot for me. The pose could be more stronger. Bring more energy too.
Team Brown (Kate & Sienna) Autumn/Spring
Anna: Everything works in such harmony here, it really is quite enchanting. Your hair, the outfit, the setting and colors, it's all so perfectly autumn, without being over-the-top. You look stunning, and I think you've done a great job working with the setting; you've transformed into a wilting flower awaiting the frost. There isn't much of a story in your actual expression, but your pose certainly makes up for it. I like how you're resting on the chair and the way you've delicately positioned your hands, but I think your head is almost too straight. If you would have tilted it ever so slightly, I think it would have worked better with the rest of your pose. Overall, I think you've done a fabulous job here Kate, and I am excited to see what you come up with next.
Joan: Just gorgeous! Absolutely gorgeous! I adore this setting and fits perfectly with autumn. The dress, hair and pose are wonderful. My only complaint is your facial expression; I wish you looked softer rather than tough here. It would have fit much better if you look soft and angelic.
Amanda: I can't completely see the autumn here, but that doesn't change that this is an absolutely beautiful photograph and goes beyond the Plain Jane you were last round - the pose and setting are great, and all the leaves do seem to suggest autumn (but it's really only them). I like the idea with the chair. I love your hair and the dress. It's great all around, but I do agree with Joan that your face leaves a little to be desired. Still, it's almost like you're withering away, so that's a good thing. Great work
Beth: Gorgeous. I love everything. This is so good Kate. The pose, the outfit, the setting. I think every elements in this photo reflects "Autumn" well. I think the color of the dress looks superb in your skin tone. Beautiful, Kate. Stunning
Amanda: This photo strikes me more as summer than spring. Look at those flowers. Are they just blooming, or is the wind blowing them away? I remember a similar mistake in Cycle 5... sunflowers in May? This highly strikes me as August...
Despite that gripe, you're really pretty. The styling is good, and the setting works. However, it's not very memorable. Your expression is somewhat bland and you don't appear to be enjoying yourself. The memorable value of a photo lies with you, and you do nothing to make it stand out. Overall, this is just good, so you should be safe as long as your partner does well too.
Anna: You poor thing, you must be starving; you went from chewing the necklace in your avatar to chewing the grass in this shot. All jokes aside, I think you look fabulous here; the styling is wonderful for spring, and it looks like you're literally sitting in an Easter basket. Your eyes are the star of this show, but I think it's mainly due to how dark they are compared to the intense light of the rest of the image. If there was some more color, and a bit more energy from you, I think this would be an absolutely perfect photo for spring; but as it stands, it's about two thirds of the way there for me.
Joan: I get a mix between summer and spring here. The chair, and styling fits good for spring but the background looks like its summer in the south. You look absolutely gorgeous here, but what hurts my eyes is looking at your pale skin and that bright white top. Overall I think you did good but not excellent!
Beth: I think there's a mix between Spring & Summer here but I think the Spring element here is stronger than Summer. So I don't have any issue with that. But your face. Last week, I really love your photo but this week, I think your face is so bland. Nothing interesting about you this week. My eyes go straight to the chair. I think you were overshadowed by the setting and the chair this week.
Team Green (Jennifer & Shannyn) Summer/Winter
Joan: Is this a candid from a photo shoot? Your attention looks like your posing for an actual real photo shoot. I like your pose, it complements your body. I get the summer vibe from this picture as well. My only concern is the candid feel to the picture. But even if this is candid I think it is still good.
Beth: I think your body is flawless here. i like this photo more than the last one. I love the styling. However I agree with Joan about the Candid vibe but I still love this photo. You reflect the summer well.
Anna: High fashion meets Sports Illustrated, I love it. I'm so happy that you took our advice last round and are now watching those angles. I would have liked to see a bit more in your expression, mainly in your eyes, but I can see how it's adding to that high fashion edge. As far as your specific season, you being on the beach, in swimwear, can't help but scream summer (though ironically, this was shot in late September I believe). One slightly irritating thing, however, is this is the second week in a row that you're hanging out on the beach. I know things just kind of fell into place that way, but hopefully it doesn't become a Jennifer trademark.
Amanda: The angle is unusual, but it actually works. It looks like it's from a separate camera than the main one but it's still professional quality - and the background is awesome. It's a very unique summery shoot, and your body is flawless. I just wish we could see more of your face since the angle of it is unusual, but like I said - it works for showcasing your body, and that's what you want us to focus on. That's what tends to happen in summer. It works, but it isn't top-tier or anything.
Amanda: Let me apologize in advance if I sound a little too mean here. But I always give the brutal truth about what I think about a photo.
This is not good. At all. I do see the winter, yes, but this photo is so drab in every way imaginable. There's nothing pretty about this. There's nothing memorable about this. You're wearing an oversized sweater that covers you, and the cropping around your head makes your already weak face an afterthought. The lighting is poor, and since it's in black and white, it's just rather dull to look at. Really, the best thing about this photo is that it fits winter perfectly, but at the same time, it doesn't make the most of it. This looks like an anti-something ad you'd see on the city bus. You look depressed. Like you were abused or got sick from secondhand smoke. I can see how that is wintery, but I don't see a high-fashion value in here. I don't really see anything except staying true to the theme, and that alone may be enough to save you.
Sorry... I really hope you can stay. This just wasn't the best you could do :/
Joan: The only way I figured out this was winter was because of the sweater. Nothing else helped me figure it out. The setting is just a plain forgettable wall. I wish you gave us an explanation to know why you picked this for winter. I will give you credit on showing sad in a photo, you did a good job on that but the theme isn’t sad its seasons. Overall this is just a boring forgettable photo, sorry Shannyn.
Beth: I like the sweater. Hmmm. I think you look so weak here. Where's the energy that you gave us last week. I really like your look Shannyn. I think you have one of the best look in this cycle. But this is didn't work for me, Shannyn.
Anna: Well, rather than rub even more salt into the wound, I'll try to offer a slightly different perspective on things. I know how much you believe in this photo, because I can see what you've gone through to get rid of all the text that was originally cluttering it up. There is a quiet simplicity here; from the setting, to the black and white, to your pose. I think the main problem is you've taken the simplicity a bit too far. I do like the emotion in your expression, and the styling certainly matches the season, but you need to take things to another level; I know you've got it in you.
Team Pink (Miley & Sarah) Summer/Winter
Amanda: This is a very pretty photograph, but it screams more "senior picture" than "high fashion." Not that there's anything horribly wrong with that - there isn't. The dress is good and I adore your hair, and your expression is strong also. I love the setting and the pool really does apply well to summer - at least you're not wearing shoes! I really like it, but at the same time, I don't see as much "model" from this as I could - this is the kind of picture you give to your friends in your final semester before graduating. Doesn't change that I like it.
Anna: I can't believe it, out of all the summer and spring photos we've seen, there's finally a girl that actually has the emotion that does these seasons justice. I don't know why everyone is so afraid to smile in their summer and spring shots; maybe it's because they don't want to mimic last week, but I am so happy you decided to go this route. Your outfit is lovely, and your pose is cute...almost too cute actually (borderline candid?). There's also something incredibly disturbing about your hand, but I have no idea why. Overall, your expression is great, and the styling and setting are unmistakably summer. You're clearly playing it safe this week, but since seasons tend to be frustratingly open to interpretation, you've chosen a good time to do it.
Joan: Omg! I absolutely love this setting! I like how you’re sitting on the diving board and instead of just relaxing on a beach chair. I think your facial expression is very simple, I mean it’s just a smile. But the styling, pose and setting is wonderful Miley and it all fits together. Good job!
Beth: I'm with Joan & Anna. I love your energy. I can feel it. You look very fresh and love the dress. The setting is so "Summer". This is what Summer supposed to be. Fun, Exciting & Hip!!!
Amanda: Happy Halloween, Sarah. This is not a winter photograph - it's for autumn. Your description screams Halloween. Halloween is in autumn. Dead trees, darkness, mystery, you being afraid... that doesn't add up to winter for me. That adds up to October.
Despite that quibble, it's an okay photograph that seems almost like a promo still for a horror movie. You're like a damsel in distress running away from the monster and you're turning back to see how far away you've gotten. I like your hair and dress, but I don't love them - there's nothing incredibly unique that makes this one stand out. This could be so much more than it is, and it's unfortunate. Sorry Sarah, but I can't rank you as highly as last week :/
Anna: Alright Sarah, let's see if we can make this work...how about we call this shot "The Nightmare Before Christmas". That way, Amanda gets her Halloween, you get your winter, and everyone's happy. I really do see where you're coming from with this; the blue, the cold, the dead leaves, but honestly it's still not enough to make this unquestionably winter. Your outfit is gorgeous, but I'm afraid even your boobs would get frostbite in that dress if this was as cold as it looks, not to mention those poor bare feet. I like your expression, and your pose is fantastic; there's no denying that you're telling a story here, but unfortunately, I don't think it's a winter story.
Joan: Sorry but I agree with Amanda, I see autumn more than winter. I am mad you picked winter because if this was autumn I would have liked the setting more. Your pose works with your setting. SMG we all know you are a scream queen and this photo shows that. I like your scared facial expression it works with the setting and pose. Fits together very well but damn it Sarah! Why did you say it is winter and not autumn, going to have to mark down points on that.
Beth: I'm from Malaysia and I can see what're you trying to do, Sarah. I love the concept. Very unique but your face in this photo didn't work for me. I love the setting and styling especially the outfit. The pose is good too. So what I want from you is strong face expression. I want to see the energy coming from your face.
Team Purple (Katy & Troian) Autumn/Spring
Anna: Yes, I see the dead leaves, but what about you, the tiny little thing hiding behind obnoxious sunglasses? Clearly I'm not a huge fan of this; it seems to me that you simply stumbled on a photo that happened to have some dead leaves on the ground, and thought it would be good enough. Unfortunately, it's not. Your outfit does not give me the autumn vibe, and frankly, neither does that overwhelming green wall behind you. I'm not loving the pose, though I suppose it could work in an entirely different situation. I would comment on your expression, but I can't see it behind the glasses and floodlight. In the end, I think the most interesting thing about this photo is the shadow you're casting on the trees.
Joan: I see summer not autumn. You look like you are at a summer night party, especially with your pose and outfit. I like your pose and styling, you look like a model here but I am not too impressed here. I think your glasses take all of the attention in this photo and not you. This is just an okay photo for me.
Amanda: This isn't very good. I think that might be bark mulch along the bottom, which is something people start putting on their landscapes in May. It's more summery than autumnal. I also hate that you're wearing sunglasses - I want to see your eyes! I want to see your face! Given the atrocious lighting, your SHADOW stands out more than you do. You're an afterthought. I don't take notice to you. I'm not going to remember this photo after I've moved onto the next one. I want more colors! I want more fashion! More style! More of YOU! At least one thing good about this is that it isn't Photoshopped to Neptune and back, so that's an improvement...
Beth: I'm going to give you credit, Katy because this week wasn't easy. You need to tolerate with your teammate. I mean you could have such an amazing summer photo, but you also consider your teammate ability and willing to find other photo. I didn't like the styling. Too glamorous for Autumn but as for the setting, I really like this. Your setting is great for this week theme. Your pose is very natural too. My only issue is your styling.
Anna: So, out of the three samples you posted, you decided to go with the one where you are showing absolutely no emotion...interesting. I definitely see spring here though; the setting is great, you look lovely, and the outfit certainly matches the season, but your expression and pose are utterly lifeless. Think about it, you've been cooped up inside all winter, and now that it's warming up and mother nature is bursting with life, you finally get to run out into the sunlight and...stare at something in the distance? Overall, I think you've definitely got the individual elements of spring here, but I would have loved to see you bring it all together with an expression and pose that does it justice.
Joan: Last round your picture was one of my favorites, I don’t like you photo as much as I liked last week. I see spring in this photo, and I like the background being blurry and all of our attention is on you. The pose is extremely awkward, we can’t see your right arm and your left arm is doing something weird. I just tried posing the way you are and it is uncomfortable. You got the setting for spring but you have the emotion people have during winter. I agree with Anna on that, it would have been better if you looked like you were enjoying yourself.
Amanda: This is very spring, but also somewhat dull. Spring is about renewing life and the coming of warmth, and this photo seems somewhat cold and sorrowful, almost wintery. You're still very beautiful and I think the styling is apropos, but when it comes down to it, I'm with Anna and Joan. It's not emotional enough, it's not full of life. It's still good, but it's by no means great.
Beth: I love the outfit. I saw your other samples photo too and I like the one which we can see your dress in full shot because I think the dress reflect the Spring really well. The setting is great, The pose not so much. Stiff. Work on your emotion too. I don't have any idea from your face. Just dead. But I still think this photo is acceptable.
